French Twist
In autumn 2019, we saw a huge French manicure comeback following New York Fashion Week and ample celebrity endorsements of the "deep French" look. For winter, the French twist is back and better than ever. "For winter you can expect to see a glossy black or metallic tip," Tuttle says.
Crystal Appliqués
Like jewellery for your fingernails, crystal appliqués feel apropos for the new year. “Appliqués like pearls or delicate Swarovski crystals will be very big this coming season," says Essie global lead educator Rita Remark. "They add a touch of glamour to a bare base."
Red Accents
If there's one single quintessentially classic nail colour, it's a bright red. You can wear yours as a trendy curved deep diagonal tip, or a full base of red with a glitter top coat — which Remark says will be a breakout winter colour trend.
Metallic Ombré
Olive June founder Sarah Gibson Tuttle tells us that this winter, we'll see the trendy ombré manicure implementing metals. "It's like non-nail-art nail art," she explains, referring to the simplicity in each finger being painted a different metallic shade. "Gold, silver, and rose-gold tones seamlessly blend to create a shiny multi-dimensional moment.”
Gold Foil
If you want your manicure to glisten, go with a multicoloured canvas design — here, it's bright blue and deep purple polishes — punctuated by gold foil overlay. "The glimmer of platinum gold is like the perfect final touch to dress up your mani," says Tuttle.
